The Action Forum Dates
Aspen Global Leadership Network Fellows and Patron Pass Holders.
July 30th – August 1st, 2013:
Invited participants will join the Action Forum at mid-‐day on July 30th.
With discussions ranging from big-picture topics such as “The Road To IPO: Lessons Learned” and “Letter From A Birmingham Jail: 50 Years Later… Unfinished Business?,” to sector-specific discussions on leadership such as “Energy: Self Sufficiency At What Price?” and “Education: Is The Classroom Obsolete?,” participants challenge one another’s thinking and actions as leaders. Sessions will be moderated to inspire action.
The Aspen Leaders Action Forum is about action.
Ideas are important…but only if they lead somewhere. The Action Forum is designed to make sure that they do.
The Aspen Leaders Action Forum is deeply intimate.
With only 350 participants, the Action Forum’s size allows for greater use of small group dialogues – approximately 25-30 people per dialogue – across the Aspen campus.
The Aspen Leaders Action Forum is a highly interactive event.
Approximately 60% of participants will have speaking roles as lead discussants, moderators or keynote speakers.
The Aspen Leaders Action Forum is a globally diverse event.
Participants have registered from over 30 countries. Approximately half of the attendees will travel to the United States.
The Aspen Leaders Action Forum draws almost exclusively on the wisdom and talent of its attendees. Outside speakers are rare.
The Action Forum will weave the theme of action into all aspects of the agenda:
- Mini-Seminars feature moderated, text-‐based Socratic dialogue designed to prompt participants to reflect on their responsibilities as leaders and on the urgency for action.
- Leadership Dialogues are different from typical “panel” discussions: Featured individuals are there to set the stage for a full dialogue involving 25 participants. Each featured speaker has no more than 5 minutes to speak on the topic at hand, leaving a full hour for a wide-ranging, highly interactive dialogue.
- Action Workshops permit attendees to present challenges related to their Fellowship projects or action focus for an in-depth consultation with approximately 25 of their peers.
- Action Commitments will be asked of participants both during the registration process for the Action Forum and after the Forum ends. These actions can either be recommitments such as strengthening and broadening existing projects or new personal efforts to tackle a critical societal challenge.
